WHAT IS REIKI?

The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words: Rei which means Universal or Higher Power.  And Ki which means Life Force Energy.
So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy".
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion.  There is nothing that you must believe in order to receive or learn Reiki.
It is a "hands on" technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing.  Reiki treats the whole person on four levels: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.  It goes where ever the person needs it and Reiki can do no harm.  How great is that!
This is a brief explanation of Reiki.  If you have any questions, please go to the comment button at the end of this blog posting and write your question.
I will be happy to answer.

  1. Hi MaryAnne,

Your explanation of Reiki is simple and concise. Can you please explain how and what Reiki is used for by giving some examples?

  2. Dear Anonymous,
Reiki can be used for any reason. For instance, if a person is undergoing treatments for a specific condition, Reiki sessions can help by relaxing the patient. When we are relaxed, healing takes place more readily.
A Reiki session usually takes place in a quiet setting. The person lies down fully clothed on a Reiki/Massage table. The Reiki treatment usually takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes.

  3. Hi MaryAnne,
Love your blog. Is Reiki anything like Theraputic Touch, my aunt, who is a nurse, used to use this and sort of cleansed your body without touching, was able to feel the energy field emanating out of the person's body and work with it that way, loosening clogged areas and such. It was really interesting and seemed helpful.

  4. Hi Bethany,
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.
Yes, it sounds like your aunt is an energy healer. By not touching you, she was treating your aura. The aura is that part of your energy field that surrounds your physical body.
